Taking a staycation this summer? Although you may be busy with cleaning and organizing your home, it’s important to incorporate some fun projects, for both you and your children! Check out these fun DIY projects, perfect for your home, that are sure to give you something to look forward to during your staycation, that won’t cost you an arm and a leg!
Decorate existing vases or photo frames to match your home’s color scheme
We all have them; vases stored in a cupboard that we rarely use, photo frames that we’ve collected over the years that have been shut into a drawer or cabinet for safe keeping. But let’s face it; most of the time, these items don’t match your home’s decor! A fun and inexpensive way to repurpose these items for use in your home is to re-decorate them yourself! Visit a local craft store and purchase spray paint or craft paint that matches your decor and get to work!
Paint a wall or interior door
Sometimes, a fresh coat of paint on a wall or door will give your home a fresh new look and feel. Want to incorporate the kids? Lay down drop cloths and plastic sheets and let them “help” you paint the wall or door in question. The good news, you can always paint over the imperfections.
Build a Raised Garden Bed or Container Garden
A great way to keep children interested in science and agriculture is to let them have a garden of their own! A raised garden bed is easy to build and doesn’t require much heavy lifting. Rather stay away from boards and nails? Create a bucket or container garden! 5-gallon buckets are inexpensive from your local hardware stores and can be used as miniature gardens for your vegetable and herb plants. Have some extra containers laying around the house? Repurpose those and save even more, just don’t forget the container soil.
