Tips for a Safe Halloween at Home

Halloween is next week and millions of children will be hitting the streets in their costumes! From scary ghosts to beautiful princesses, the streets and sidewalks will be packed, especially in large neighborhoods! It’s important as a homeowner, that you keep the safety of children (and the adults that are escorting them) as a priority. Here are a few tips to keep in mind!

Ensure All Exterior Lights are Functional
Take this time to test your exterior lights of your home to ensure all are in working order. Replace any bulbs that may have burnt out over the year. Keeping the exterior of your home illuminated is important to ensure those approaching your door can see clearly.

Remove Tripping Hazards from Walking Path
Inspect your driveway, sidewalk and yard for any debris that could pose a tripping hazard. Tree limbs, water hoses, and overgrown shrubbery should be removed to ensure trick or treaters won’t trip and fall. Sweep off any leaves from your steps to ensure trick or treaters do not slip and fall while approaching or leaving your porch.

Ensure Fencing and Gates are Able to Contain Animals
If you have pets that you often allow to run in your yard, ensure that your fence is sturdy and is able to contain your pets. The last thing you want is to have your pets escaping and being frightened.
